James Hill

James enjoys creative pursuits, including art, music and performance. These traits translate over to his therapeutic work, uniquely assisting clients to discover the artistic beauty of one’s personal narrative.

James is a registered psychotherapist and has completed a Master of Psychotherapy degree at the Auckland University of Technology.

James has worked in counselling for eight years, with experience in:

  • Drug and alcohol abuse

  • Trauma

  • PTSD

  • Sexual abuse

  • Family counselling

  • Relationship problems

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Cultural related issues

James uses a hybrid of western psychotherapeutic approaches, with indigenous Māori health approaches.

As a psychotherapist, James is passionate about finding personal balance, growth, internal harmony and addressing traumas in various stages of a person’s life. James is of Māori heritage, with his iwi of Whākatōhea in Ōpōtiki and Ngāpuhi in Matauri Bay.
